Let The To Do List-ing Begin!

After yesterday’s announcement, I was pretty keyed up and had the absolute worst night of sleep in recent memory. It took me two hours to fall asleep in bed because I was thinkingthinkingthinking, and I was wide awake again after about two hours because I was thinkingthinkingthinking.

I came downstairs at about 3:30 a.m., turned on the television and opened the ole’ laptop. I worked on a post, checked emails, and scrolled Facebook–but not for long because my friends were all sleeping at the time and there were few updates posted since I had gone to bed earlier.

I finally went back to sleep on the couch and got about two more hours of less-than-satisfactory sleep.

I think it’s time for me to have a little re-org…in my head. I have been in a state of transition for the past month or so, and it’s time to get into a routine. There’s just SO MUCH going on.

Though I am still working for the salon, I’m no longer working in the salon: I’m doing marketing from home. This has opened up my schedule tremendously and gives me more time to work on writing projects (including this blog, my articles for NAILPRO Magazine, and something major that I just found out about only ten minutes ago), SociaL RevUp, and Listen To Your Mother. In addition, I’m back to doing Jillian Michaels’ 30-Day Shred and attempting to add even more workouts to supplement the one spin class I teach and the two zumba classes I take each week.

It’s enough to make a person go a little batty.

The only part of my schedule I have down pat is the 30-Day Shred part. I normally do that first thing in the morning, and if I have time I’ll walk the dog, especially if I need to get some serious work done, because she’s better behaved when she’s tired.

The other parts of my day? A huge mess, schedule-wise.
I’m starting my rather obsessive “to do list” behavior, and soon many of my home’s surfaces will be covered in Post-it Notes and random notebooks that hold scribbled-on pages, the notes only legible to me and nobody else.

I need a plan. Any suggestions? I’d love to hear them, especially from those of you who work from home!

OK my suggestion is make a schedule like you were in school. 1 hour answering emails and blogs 2nd hour write your column 3rd hour plan your time for making any appointments 4th hour lunch and so on. Then keep to it as best as you can. GOOD LUCK!

Yep, you’re probably right. I’ll probably try to work this way for a while and see how it goes.

My advice? Schedule a two week vacation in winter to Hawaii right now! Seriously. I’ve found that nothing is more motivational and focusing for me than to plan to go away on an extended holiday. Suddenly I’m filled with all sorts of “can do” attitude. πŸ˜‰

THAT sounds fantastic, and although a vacay is not in the cards today, I know exactly what you mean!

You are a busy girl! Congratulations on Listen to Your Mother πŸ™‚ I know you will do a wonderful job! I personally like the Springpad site/app bc it lets me set up an electronic notebook with tasks, post-its, to do list for each project. All notebook are accessible via web or phone so its really helpful. Good luck!

Thanks Patty, I’ll check Springpad out!

For me, the only thing that works is an old fashioned calendar that I keep in my purse. I’ve tried using the google calendar, the calendar on my phone, etc, and it just doesn’t work like a PAPER one. I also liked how Grandma W. said you should be on a schedule- a schedule is good and will keep you productive as far as “one hour spent on this, one hour spent on that,” etc..

    Congrats on your new gig!

Thanks! My problem these days w/ a paper calendar is I’m too scattered to keep track of it. (Lazy)

I think you should move here and go with the flow like I do (on the outside that is, my insides are a tied up mess).

      That’s ONE idea…
