…and then, when I woke up, I realized it was July first already.
I’m not sure what is going on, but time is moving at warp speed: nothing new for me, really, but this is ridiculous. Six months of 2012 are gone already. Wasn’t it just New Year’s Eve?
It’s not slowing down anytime soon, either. This month alone I’ve got a couple of college visits left (plus a weekend College Open House), a visit to Tennessee, final prep for BBSummit and the conference itself (along with a long weekend visit with Liz!), two events (so far!), continued workouts at The Dailey Method and Zumba, a magazine article deadline, and prep work for our bathroom renovation. I’m still trying to figure out how I can do all of that and make time to declutter my house. It makes my head spin.
Level of busy-ness aside (it’s all good stuff!), I love my life right now.
I have been taking the weekends to actually shut down the computer for hours at a time (WHAT? WHO KNEW THAT WAS POSSIBLE??) and actually look around and enjoy what’s going on around me. If being excited about running errands and doing home projects with Jim is dorky, I guess I’m a dork. Reconnecting at the grocery store is actually lovely (AMIRITE, Liz?), and when we picked out and purchased the new light fixtures for our bathroom reno yesterday, we walked out to the car pumping our fists in the air together because we were all, “YEAH! WE’RE GETTING STARTED!” If there’s one thing we’re good at, it’s teamwork.
And then there’s the fun that I’m having with J on these college visits. It’s nice to get away from home together for a few hours and talk in depth about what he likes about each of these schools and how they can benefit him on his path to a career. Senior year is just ahead and I’m just amazed about it. All of it.
D is having the time of his life this summer, doing exactly what he wants to do. That makes me happy.
I hadn’t had the luxury of being able to go take fitness classes literally whenever I want to since before the kids were born, and now I can do it. I am seeing some changes that I really like, and I feel really good.
Even though the circumstances that brought my sister here to live with us stink (she still needs work: anyone need a freelance graphic designer?), I really love having her around. I’ve got a reality tv buddy in the house (not to mention another girl: woot!), we’re still cooking fun dinners, and it’s nice to have another person around who *gets me*. (Related: I may be rubbing off on her as I MAY have seen her dancing–she called it “shrugging my shoulders”–in the kitchen last night.)
I have a supportive husband who loves that I am finally able to pursue writing (and my other related activities) for a living rather than being tied down to a job outside of the house, and I am so thankful for that. I have written about lots of little things that I love about Jim but one of the big things is that he is secure in encouraging me to fly, knowing that everything I do in my crazy work always has the same end goal as his own work: making our family comfortable and providing a good life for us all.
There are so many things to be grateful for as I begin the second half of 2012. What about you? What are you grateful for?
