We got rid of our satellite over the summer. There was great relief that came from not having those bills anymore, but at the same time it was pretty painful—and still is sometimes, especially when I can’t watch things like my beloved “Today Show”. Or awards shows. Or anything live that’s not on ABC, considering that’s the only local channel we can get via our antenna.
It’s okay though. We use a couple of streaming services to get our television fix. True story: we’ve been using Netflix for the longest. What I love about Netflix is not only do we get to watch recently released movies, but we can also go back in time and watch classic and beloved television shows. Last year J and I watched “That 70’s Show” from the very beginning to the very end. Jim and I are currently working on “Scrubs”, and we’ve watched “Cheers” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” excessively too. (And “Arrested Development”. And “Ally McBeal”. Need I continue?)
Netflix recently made it possible for each family member to have their own profile, and I love that. That means that each of us gets recommendations that match what we individually prefer. I have found all kinds of things to watch via Netflix recommendations that I never would have discovered otherwise.
Even though it hurt my heart deeply to miss the Olympic broadcasts this year, Netflix helped me enjoy the essence of my favorite event (figure skating) with their exclusive documentary “The Fabulous Ice Age”, which is about the history of Olympic figure skating. All. Over. It.
Also? “30 For 30: The Price of Gold”, about the Tonya Harding/Nancy Kerrigan scandal.
If you were lucky enough (sigh) to watch the Olympics with your family, maybe you had some good conversations about inspiration and teamwork? Here’s a list of movies you can stream via Netflix that your big kids just might love, and they go with that theme:
1. The Short Game
2. The Kid
3. The Pistol
4. A Mile in His Shoes
5. Winning Favor
6. The Mighty Macs
7. Like Mike 2: Streetball
8. Air Bud: World Pup
9. Air Bud: Seventh Inning Fetch
10. Air Bud Spikes Back
That should keep you busy for a while. More streaming suggestions coming up in March!
