Being a daily Netflix user, I enjoy taking full advantage of the available movies and shows that I might have missed when they were originally released, and lots that I’ve never heard of before. When the boys come home and we all want to enjoy dinner around the television together, we know that we have countless choices.
SOMETIMES, though, familiarity is the key to a great family night. Revisiting old favorites we’ve seen five, ten, and even twenty times before allows us to bond over those shared memories, laugh over the same old things, and exclaim our favorite quotes, totally in context (meaning strangers aren’t looking at us in a funny way because they have no idea what we’re talking about).
Our favorite go-to movie and television franchises on these family nights?
The Matrix (not currently available on streaming but a fave nonetheless!)
It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia
The boys and I always know that when this particular Hulk Smash scene in “The Avengers” comes up, we will be subjected to it multiple times. That’s because Jim laughs so hard that tears come to his eyes, and he insists on rewinding and replaying. Four times. Six times. Maybe eight.
And when Dwight exposed Ryan the Temp as the “firestarter” in the good old days of “The Office”, we all sing along.
Netflix has provided us with many, many family night memories (and laughs); I look forward to the next one!
